Woodlot Evaluation
What makes a woodlot worth harvesting?
How long is a piece of string... I can quickly assess the following factors for anyone interested in understanding the value of their woodlot and the costs involved in harvesting the wood. I provide this woodlot evaluation for free.
How many hectares is the woodlot?I find farmers often expect a price per hectare. It is not possible to provide this until the density of trees is taken into consideration. Obviously the more trees, the more return to the owner. A better question to ask is how many trees in the woodlot?
How mature are the trees in the woodlot? Again, this comes back to the principle that more wood equates to more return. More mature trees generally produce more wood. Generally, pine trees are harvested from 22+ years of age. If the genetics of the trees, the soil and other factors are in your favour then you might be able to yield a good return on pine trees as young as 18 years old. Where is the woodlot?Forestry plantation terrain adds complexity. Woodlots that are on steep terrain and a long way from the road can cost more to harvest because there might be a need to create a track/road to ensure the woodlot is safe to harvest. I work to current farm tracks/roads to reduce cost. Transporting the wood to the port can also add a significant cost if the location is remote. Generally, I take wood to the Port of Tauranga. I will assess the costs involved in tracking/roading, harvesting and transporting your woodlot and provide a fair, accurate quote within the free woodlot evaluation.

Woodlot Harvesting
What is involved in the harvesting process?
From the roading/cutting the trees down to loading them on the truck for the export buyers, I do the lot! Less stress and disruption for the land owners as you deal with the one person!
How does Williams Woodlot Services maximise your return? I operate to minimize handling and movements of the product. Quicker and easier it is to get on the truck, the more money the owner makes!
How will the harvest impact my property? I utilize existing farm tracks/races for less disturbance to farm paddocks and the farming operations. I leave the job site in a condition that you will have a clean burn to reinstate back to grazing land or replanting.
Woodlot Logging
What does woodlot logging involve?
Usually the same movements as any other logging operation but in my business with smaller, more cost effective equipment and less disruption. Meaning less impact on the land owner.
How will the woodlot logging process impact my return?
With having less machinery and disruption you will more than likely have a better return. Weather dictates alot but i work around it to eliminate mess and costs at the end of harvest.
Woodlot Marketing
Where does the wood go?
I mainly supply the export market but when its possible to save costs for the owner I will supply local mills.
Who buys the wood?
Mostly China but I deal with the export buyer direct so I can change markets to where ever the better price my be.
Will i get paid on time?
GUARANTEED!
